Beautiful wedding photography for Lovers

Aekingerzand Engagement: Lieneke + Patrick

We choose a great evening to go out for the engagement session of Lieneke and Patrick. The sun was still out, a clear sky and it was warm for the time of year. The Aekingerzand is a beautiful sandy area in the south of Friesland and ideal for this sessions. When we started out Lieneke was a little nervous but as soon as we started all fear melted away and she and Patrick turned out to be true natural before the camera. This shows why an engagement session is such a great thing to do.

We had a lot of fun and I could not be happier with the result . Take a look at the images of this engagement session.

Aekingerzand Engagement Preview: Lieneke + Patrick

Lieneke manages the De Hildenberg Golf resort and the Grand Cafe there as well. A little over two years ago Patrick came by to make some adjustments to the outside terras. He watched this girl walking by and chatted with her, laughing with her but when his task was done he said goodbye and left. Lieneke also liked this sweet man at first sight but took no initiative to get his phonenumber or set up a date.

A little while after this first meeting they met again and it was clear they more than liked eachother and the rest is history. Now almost two and half years they are getting married and I am so honored that they asked me to captured they wedding.

This past week we started with their engagement session at the Aekingerzand in Appelscha. So here a preview of their session and I can say they were true naturals. More to come soon.

Come prepared or what to put in your emergency kit

Category: Photography | Wedding

Do you believe in luck or do you come prepared? Sometimes it is good to do both. So I take enough time to get to a destination, make sure I know the route even though I have navigation and I have an umbrella to vent of the rain.

When it comes to your wedding day it is always good to be prepared. But what to have in your emergency kit?

1. Pantyhose

You never know what happens to that first pair so aways take a back up pair of panty hose. Even though you wear a long dress you just feel better if you do not have a runner in them.

2. Transparant nailpolish

If you do not have panty hose in the bag make sure to have transparent nailpolish because you will always need it.

3. Needle and thread

For that rip in you dress or anything else that needs stitching.

4. Do I need my deodorant to day

Buy a small size deodorant to put in the bag because when you turn into a cold sweat you know you come prepared.

5. Lipgloss and lipgloss and then lipgloss

With all that kissing on your wedding day you can never have enough lipgloss.

What to consider when structuring your photography timeline

Category: Photography | Wedding

When you decide to get married all options are still open. Locations, transport, dress, suit, rings, flowers, cake, etc. Everything is possible. But what is wise to do especially if you want to have a relaxed day with enough time for photography?

As we see a lot of weddings I would like to give you some tips on you wedding photography timeline.

1. The amount of locations

When you have different get ready locations, first look location, ceremony location, reception location and diner and party location you can image you would be traveling a lot from one location to another. With every travel moment you loose time with the guest and you add stress especially when you have to travel by car and not all locations are easy to find or do not have enough parking space. If you limit your day to one or two locations you have more time to enjoy with your guests and have time to get all of photographed.

2. A first look

If you would like to be with your guest all through the day consider a first look before all the guests arrive. This give you time to schedule your portraits to be taken be excited to see eachother for the first time which is always very emotional and have time to talk with your guests after the ceremony. If you have sunset you could also decide to allocate some time for sunset portraits. Especially during the golden hour after the ceremony it is great to get away for just a short while and have amazing images taken.

3. Ceremony time

If you have your ceremony at a location that you have for the whole day consider having it later in the afternoon especially during summer. Main reason is if you have an indoor ceremony and the temporature rise you and your guests will be less than comfortable. Old locations are usually not air conditioned so everybody will feel warm which will be far less at the end of the afternoon. If you are getting married outside the same applies the sun is bright and hot during the mid day. Your images will look much more flattering if you would have your ceremony at e.g. three or four in the afternoon than at noon.

PhotoGalaxgraphy

A while back I replaced my cherised Nokia E71 after 6 years of good service. In this time and age it is unthinkable to have a phone this long but I did. It was not yet a smart phone but I could go on the internet, read email, photograph, Facebook and importantly make calls. The battery would live for 4 days easy but after an update of the hosted exchange server the phone whould not store my email. So I decided it was time to retire my phone and look for a new one. The contest was between the iphone and the Galaxy. I love my Macbook Pro but for some reason I was not commited to buy the iPhone. One important prerequisite I had was the possibility to read books on my phone and the Galaxy S4 provided that option. The screen is big enough to read of.

So I went out and got the Galaxy S4. At first me and the phone were not friends. Basic things just worked differently and the battery was empty within a day (what?!). So I went through the internet finding ways to reduce battery usage and learn my phone and I think we have become friends. Reading books is so easy on the phone and I love the camera that is inside. Instead of taking the big camera with me or a small camera I can easily leave them at home. I might think about this differently after a while but for now the camera is a great alternative for snap shots.

Take a look at some images I shot with the Galaxy S4 these past few months.

We met a couple of years ago when Monica was the coordinator at a wedding we photographed. As her mother wanted a family photoshoot our path crossed but it took a long time before we finally aligned our agenda's. But recently we set a date. The family suggested Landgoed Groenedaal that has small forest surrounding it. With the leafs in Autumn colors the images turned out colorful as we hoped.

Today a preview of this family session. The whole family was great, they joked made fun of each other and laughed through out the session as true models on this shoot.

What you can do with your engagement images

ngagement sessions become more and more common and popular. Couples see the benefit of having this session prior to their wedding day to get to know the photographer, to feel more confident in front of the camera and to get beautiful images. But what can you do with this nice set of images and not only store them in a computer?

Today blog post will help you get more out of your images and enjoy them every day.

Get a signing album for you wedding

Why buy a standard simple book to have your friends and family sign with their best wishes? You can get a custom designed album just for you that not only show cases your engagement images but make it even more special with all of the messages your love ones want to give you.

Invitation

Custom is the word. Couples want to stand out, be different and not have something of the shelves. Personalised invitations or save the dates are a great way to use your images for. Ask your photographer about the options to have your own invitations.

Off the wall

That white wall would look really great with one of your images on canvas, plexiglas, acryl or wood. There are a lot of options to show case your favorite image. Size matters so choose a big size canvas because small on large walls tend to disappear.

Personalised app

A lot of photographers offer the images via a personalised app for your phone or ipad. That way you always have you images with you. In an online gallery app your images look just as good as in an album so ask your photographer about the possibilites.

One year ago today Schiedam Wedding Kriszta + Myrko

Category: Photography | Wedding

Thinking back on this wedding makes me smile. We were refered by one of my clients and it was all very short notice as the bride was just out of the hospital after an operation and they would leave to move to the other side of the world shortly after. But it was still a great wedding day and this time it was held in a windmill where Kriszta and Myrko said 'I do' to each other. A year has passed and I hope it has been a great first year for these two.

Congratulations!
