Ask Anything: Why capture details

Category: Photography | Wedding

While meeting couples when they are considering a wedding photographer they ask a lot of different things. From common questions as the amount of images they get from they wedding day, how they get there images to delivered or why I would want to photograph the dress or shoes.

Answering the last question I tell couples that a wedding day is build out of many big moments which will always be the main focus of a wedding day but also out of small details. When capturing a wedding it is not just one or the other but a combination that tells the story. Your story the story of all of the elements that you have selected, of what is special for you. For some that might be the color theme they selected or all of the DIY love and labor you put in you wedding. I want to showcase those besides the big moments because to small details are the first thing you forget but are also important.

And they make for great spreads in your album.

Sappemeer Wedding: Lieneke + Patrick

He was a little tense he had to admit when he stood there waiting in front of the door waiting for her to open it. What would she look like? And would she like his beautiful suit? All expectations were exceeded when they first saw each other. It was so nice to see the looks of admiration when Patrick looked at his bride. That look showed how lucky he considered himself to be able to marry such a beautiful woman. En that feeling was mutual because Lieneke couldn't hide the look of admiration and happiness that she was about to call this handsome man her husband.

All of their family and friends shared in their happiness and did everything in their power to make this day as unforgettable as possible. En wat a champions they were. At lot of couples would not have stayed outside during family portrets with little raindrops falling down but not Lieneke and Patrick. A little rain wouldn't hurt them and it showed in the result of all the images.

Lieneke and Patrick. You are a special couple and I am so honored that I was allowed to capture your wedding day. Wishing you lot's of love and happiness !

Sappemeer Wedding Preview: Lieneke + Patrick

Every disadvantage has an advantage. The sky was still clear when we arrived but on this day the rain decided to settle above Sappemeer and not move until late in the afternoon. Lieneke and Patrick were out early as they wanted to share their day with family and friends. So their portrait session was also early in the day. They wanted to have outdoor wedding images but with the rain not clearing up we had to go to the back up plan and fortunately there was one. Not far from Sappemeer was a botanical garden, that had an Asian garden as well and that is where we went for their portrait session. Without the rain we would never have gone here.

It might have rained but Lieneke and Patrick decided not to let that bring them down. It was their wedding day and nothing or nobody could change that. They just had eyes for each other and smiled all day long. It was kind of infectuous. Here a first preview and let's be honest aren't they the most radiant lovely couple ever!

What to look for in a Wedding Photographer

Category: Photography | Wedding

As a photographer it is easy to say that every couple should choose a professional wedding photographer, a specialist who knows how to get beautiful, emotional, timeless, classic, great, real, amazing, fantastic images. Images that you will want to see every chance you get. But a professional wedding photographer is also quite an investment. But there is a reason.

A wedding photographer has not only invested money studing photography but also took training, workshops, bought and insured gear to perform their craft. That shows in the result. The quality of images is so different from a point and shoot camera or a consumer camera.

A wedding photographer has experience photographing weddings and knows what to expect. They have a sense of where to be and what to look for. Just like every specialist in every field a photographer knows photography so look at their portfolio, look at their website and blog if they have it, to see the style and if it fits your style. Don't try to change a photographer by asking for another style. Go out and find the photographer that fits you it will make you so much more happy with the end result.

A wedding photographer can provide you art work to show case on your wall, share your images via an online gallery that you can share with friends and families when you want and wedding albums that exceed anything that you can order from your local supermarket or online shop. A wedding photographer has access to the best album companies that have albums with the best quality and can create custom designed albums.

So if you are doubting to whether to choose a professional photographer do not hesitate. If you do not have a large budget hire a professional photographer for a limited amount of time instead of none at all. Because in the end the only tangible piece that you will have from your wedding day are your images.

It is also a possibility to give a wedding day color. That is why it so fun to see couples have eye for details and choose a colortheme and flowers to style a wedding day and make it personal. When choosing flowers it is always good to choose a specialist. Florists that know flowers, which to choose and combine in your wedding bouquet that will last all day long.

How to be Happy

Category: Personal

Being a photographer is maybe one of the most challenging crafts there is. Especially in the field of wedding photography how do you stand out, be you and not drown in a field of millions? I must admit that it somethings brought me down these past years.

There are so many great photographers out there that it is easy to fall for the monster, you know the one. That little thing sitting there on your shoulder wispering evil things that make you doubt yourself. But even though it is easy to compare in the end it will get you know where. So when I came across a quote on Pinterest which I think originated from the tumbler site of Franne it hit home.

Not only will this make you so much more happy but not comparing will give you an open mind that can absorb creativity. The number one creativity killer is comparison. So what ever you do in life whether, it doesn't have to be photography, make sure to be happy.

Aekingerzand Engagement: Lieneke + Patrick

We choose a great evening to go out for the engagement session of Lieneke and Patrick. The sun was still out, a clear sky and it was warm for the time of year. The Aekingerzand is a beautiful sandy area in the south of Friesland and ideal for this sessions. When we started out Lieneke was a little nervous but as soon as we started all fear melted away and she and Patrick turned out to be true natural before the camera. This shows why an engagement session is such a great thing to do.

We had a lot of fun and I could not be happier with the result . Take a look at the images of this engagement session.

Aekingerzand Engagement Preview: Lieneke + Patrick

Lieneke manages the De Hildenberg Golf resort and the Grand Cafe there as well. A little over two years ago Patrick came by to make some adjustments to the outside terras. He watched this girl walking by and chatted with her, laughing with her but when his task was done he said goodbye and left. Lieneke also liked this sweet man at first sight but took no initiative to get his phonenumber or set up a date.

A little while after this first meeting they met again and it was clear they more than liked eachother and the rest is history. Now almost two and half years they are getting married and I am so honored that they asked me to captured they wedding.

This past week we started with their engagement session at the Aekingerzand in Appelscha. So here a preview of their session and I can say they were true naturals. More to come soon.
