Beautiful wedding photography for Lovers

Engagement preview: Dieuwke and Johan

Sometimes it's a challenge to get to where you are going, to reach a goal. We made the appointment more than a month ago but while trying to get to the destination everything seemed to go wrong. A bridge that did not want to close with a detour as a result that took me more than half an hour. When I finally arrived at the location there was nowhere to park. With halloween waiting every family near Blaricum went to get a pumpkin.

But it was so worth it. We met and how glad I am we did not postponed. Because I met Johan, Dieuwke and their two adorable son's to shoot their engagement session. Because Dieuwke and Johan are getting married very soon. We shot the engagement near their wedding location and after seeing it I can not wait to shoot their wedding soon.

Wrapped in autumn colors we had a great time. Here a first preview.

In my mind

Category: Personal

I learned something today when balls were flying all over the course and one ball ended up in someone's garden. If I want to get better at things, really step up my game like with golf I have to work at it. When I watch golf on television and see the pro's swing like it is the easiest thing in the world that is because they have made that swing about a million times already. That chip or a pitch they have done it over and over again. So in order to have more fun on the course and to be better at the game, my game I am going to have to practise like there is no tomorrow.

5 books for holiday reading

Category: Personal

One of the best times of the year to read is during a holiday. I read on planes, trains and on holiday and when I go I always take a book from one of my favorite authors Guy Bellamy. He has  written 13 novels with most of them comedy and I must say that Guy Bellamy is one if not the best in this genre. His books are often situated abroad in France or Spain and tell the story of the most odd group of people.

I came across one of his books more than a decade ago in the American Book Center. As a lot of his books are not published anymore I found most of his books on Amazon for as little as 1 euro cent. So if you are looking for a fun read go online and search Amazon you will find more than plenty there.

So here goes my 5 books for holiday reading:

1. The Nudist - A book about a newly wed Simon who thinks he found the woman he should marry just after he is married. Pym the woman is already married to a big shot advertiser Ben. Together with new author Nick Bannerman they go on a holiday to remember in the south of France.

2. The Tax excile - Here Fred Carton he has done not a thing with his life inherits a large sum of money. His account advices him to go to Monte Carlo for a year to save a big amount of money. With all the pleasures Fred can think of Monte Carlo is not a bad place to be for a year. But once there he discovers that a year in the sun is not an easy tasks after all.

3. In the Midday Sun - Three fugitive brothers end up on the coast of Spain. One is running away from the Inland Revenue, the other has done the perfect bank job and the third is playing music in a pub. Unfolds the most funny story about this three brothers who have to survive the midday sun which is a recipe for trouble. I laughed and laughed so good.

4. The Holiday - A publisher with his assistant, a married couple of twenty years who finally get to enjoy a holiday in France after Bruce the husband has been laid off and then Roger a man who does nothing much and his girlfriend Esme who is an artist spend three weeks at the Carlton in Cannes for a holiday to remember.

5. The Secret Lemonad drinker - Not about a holiday but still I laughed as Bobby is found sterile while his wife wants just one thing, a baby. His best friend Roland offers his services but Bobby just laughs. Meanwhile Josie walks into Bobby's life and undresses. This novel was Guy's debut and eventhough this story was written years ago it is still a great read.

Happy reading.

It is hard to believe that only a couple of hunderd kilometers the weather is so much better. That the sun is shining and the temperature is above 20 degrees. The good life. So for a couple of days we will be enjoying this nice place warm our skin in the sun and feel free. Happiness.

Book Review: Photo workshop Kenny Kim

Category: Photography | Wedding

If you like to read books on weddings here is one book that is worth while to read. Either for some inspiration or a lot of information. The second book by Kenny Kim international wedding photographer. I read Kenny's first book on wedding photography (digital wedding photographer's planner) which I really enjoyed reading. So I was looking forward to see what Kenny had to share in his second book.

The book targets the starting wedding photographer giving insight into what it takes to be a wedding photographer, how to get the most out of your gear, a lesson on exposure and composition, how to create your style and brand, out- and indoor shooting, portraits, the ceremony, the reception and post production. So a complete guide with a lot of info. As Kenny has photographed a lot of weddings he is able to talk from his own experience. Kenny has an easy way of telling his story and I think the book contains a lot of information. I have not read anything new but I still like to read how other photographers approach the creative side of a business and photography as well as the business side of business and this book gives a lot of inside combined with beautiful images.

The only thing I missed it with the images. Kenny provide with every image the ISO and setting but the only thing it doesn't include is the lens with which he captured the image which is always nice to know. Other than that a great read with a lot of eye candy.

The set up

Category: Gear | Photography

Camera gear is like candy. It's sweet and it keeps you coming back for more. Everytime I find something to add to my wish list and boy it keeps on growing. I scratch my head because there is just to much to choose from. And so read about it, search the internet about, learn about it before I buy it.

It took me a while before I had decided what set up to choose as my off camera flash.. I already had an on camera flash for which I choose a Canon 580II but when I thought about and additional flash I decided upon the Nissin di866. A very powerful flash that is super easy to operate. The phottix light stand is light weight and a great support for the flash with an umbrella coldshoe the stand is complete.

To get the flashes to trigger the off camera flash is linked to a Pocket Wizard Plus II. Together with the TT1 mini a solid combination. That's it, the complete set and I can't wait to shoot more weddings with it.
